USD Earns Highest Preseason Ranking in Program History

Yankton, South Dakota – August 15, 2023

The University of South Dakota football team has earned the No. 5 ranking in the FCS Preseason Coaches Poll, the highest preseason ranking in program history.

South Dakota is coming off a 9-3 season in 2022, in which they shared the Missouri Valley Football Conference title with North Dakota State. The Coyotes advanced to the FCS Quarterfinals, where they lost to eventual national champion North Dakota State.

South Dakota returns several key players from last year's team, including quarterback Carson Camp, running back Travis Theis, and wide receiver Wesley Eliodor. The Coyotes also have a strong defense, led by defensive lineman Caleb Sanders and linebacker Jack Cochrane.

South Dakota is scheduled to open the 2023 season on September 1st at home against Montana State.
