NDSU Men’s Cross Country Picked 2nd in Summit League Preseason Poll

Bison Expected to Challenge for Summit League Title in 2023

Fargo, N.D. –

The North Dakota State University men's cross country team was picked to finish second in the Summit League Preseason Coaches’ Poll, which was released on Wednesday, August 23.

The Bison received 40 points in the poll, placing them behind only South Dakota State University, which was picked to win the league with 48 points.

NDSU returns four of its top five runners from last year's team, which finished third at the Summit League Championships.

  • Senior All-American Josh Heikes
  • Senior Jacob Rodin
  • Junior Evan Kotzer
  • Sophomore Cade Peterson

The Bison also welcome a talented group of newcomers, including redshirt freshman Carter Johnson and true freshman Gavin Eggebraaten.

NDSU head coach Dennis Newell is confident that his team can challenge for the Summit League title this season.

“We have a good mix of experience and youth on this year's team,” Newell said. “Our returning runners are hungry to improve upon last year's finish, and our newcomers have the potential to make an immediate impact.”

The Bison will open their season on September 2 at the Augustana Twilight.
