The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has confirmed a case of measles in a traveler who passed through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on January 20th, 2023. The individual, who was not a Los Angeles County resident, traveled from London to LAX and is now experiencing symptoms consistent with measles.
Health officials are currently investigating possible exposures to the virus at LAX and other locations visited by the infected traveler. Anyone who was at LAX between 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM on January 20th is advised to monitor themselves for symptoms of measles.
Symptoms of Measles
Measles is a highly contagious disease that can be life-threatening, especially in infants and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically appear 10-12 days after exposure and may include:
- High fever
- Rash
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Red, watery eyes
Prevention and Treatment
