Gabby Douglas Ends Bid for Paris Olympics

Three-Time Olympic Champion Withdraws from US Championships

Douglas's Journey Comes to an End

Three-time Olympic champion Gabby Douglas has ended her bid to represent Team USA in Paris this summer after withdrawing from this weekend's US Gymnastics Championships.

The 27-year-old announced on Wednesday, May 29, that she would not take part in the US Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. Douglas cited injuries and her focus on her personal life as reasons for her withdrawal.

"I've decided to withdraw from the US Championships," Douglas said in a statement. "I've been struggling with some injuries and I'm not ready to compete at the level I need to. I also want to focus on my personal life and my future."

Douglas's withdrawal marks the end of an illustrious career that saw her win two Olympic gold medals in 2012 (team and all-around) and a bronze medal in 2016 (team). She is also a two-time world champion (2011 and 2015).

Douglas's decision to retire is a reminder of the physical and mental toll that elite gymnastics can take on athletes. She has been open about her struggles with injuries and eating disorders throughout her career. Her withdrawal is a testament to her strength and resilience, and it is a reminder to all athletes that it is okay to put their health and well-being first.
