Charles Darwin: The Father of Evolutionary Theory
Early Life and Education
Charles Robert Darwin FRS FRGS FLS FZS JP was born on February 12, 1809, in Shrewsbury, England. His father was a doctor who wished for his son to become a medical doctor, so Darwin attended the University of Edinburgh to pursue a medical degree.
Contributions to Science
Darwin's most significant contribution to science was his theory of evolution through natural selection. Through his observations and research, he proposed that organisms within a species exhibit variations and those with advantageous traits are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing on their advantageous traits to future generations.
